AceShowbiz - Actor Andrew Garfield recently engaged in an emotional conversation with "Sesame Street" beloved character Elmo, reflecting on his late mother Lynn, who passed away in 2019 from pancreatic cancer. The exchange was shared by the Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind "Sesame Street", as part of their ongoing efforts to help children and families work through difficult feelings.
"I'm just thinking about my mom today. She passed away not too long ago and you know, I just miss her a lot," Garfield revealed to Elmo, emphasizing that it's okay to miss someone. He explained, "You know, that sadness is kind of a gift. It's a lovely thing to feel in a way, because it means that you really loved somebody when you miss them."
Garfield shared cherished memories of his mother, saying, "When I miss my mom, I remember all the cuddles I used to get from her. All the hugs I used to get from her. It makes me feel close to her when I miss her, in a strange way." He added, "So, I'm happy to have all the memories of my mom and all the joy she brought me. And the joy she brought my brother, and my dad, everyone she ever met, everyone around her. So, when I miss her, I remember it's because she made me so happy. So, I can celebrate her and I can miss her at the same time."
During the conversation, Garfield fondly recalled that "Elmo was my mummy's favorite," expressing his everlasting affection for the character. In response, Elmo hugged Garfield and thanked him for sharing about his mom, vowing to celebrate her too.
Earlier this month, Garfield spoke with CNN's Anderson Cooper, reflecting on his mother's exemplary qualities. "My mother's qualities that were the most kind of obvious, or apparent, were a gentleness, a kindness, a generosity," Garfield said. He remembered her concern for others even in her final days, highlighting her selflessness.
In addition to his heartfelt tribute on "Sesame Street", Garfield continues to explore themes of love and loss in his latest film "We Live in Time", which debuted on October 11. The movie features Florence Pugh and portrays a couple navigating life's challenges, including illness.
