AceShowbiz - Pop singer Halsey has released a new single, "I Never Loved You," which is a heart-rending and introspective ballad that draws inspiration from the iconic Kate Bush. The song is the latest offering from Halsey's upcoming fifth album, "The Great Impersonator," which is scheduled for release on October 25.
In "I Never Loved You," Halsey compares the end of a relationship to the trauma of open-heart surgery. Over subdued synths and somber piano chords, she sings, "I never loved you in vain" to a former lover.
The song serves as the third single from "The Great Impersonator," following "Ego" and "Lonely Is the Muse." Halsey has been teasing the album's tracklist on social media, impersonating different musical icons for each new release. For "I Never Loved You," she dressed up as an Eighties-era Kate Bush.
Lyrically, "I Never Loved You" seems to draw on Halsey's personal experiences. In the past, she has referenced her breakup with Alev Aydin, who is also the father of her child, in the Britney Spears-inspired "Lucky". "The Great Impersonator" is expected to contain more revealing and personal deep cuts.
The album's release comes after Halsey shared that they have been diagnosed with Lupus SLE and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder. "I made this record in the space between life and death," Halsey said upon announcing the LP.
