AceShowbiz - Matthias Schoenaerts has been cast in a pivotal role in the upcoming superhero movie "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow," which is part of DC Studios' rebooted DC Universe. Schoenaerts will portray the villain opposite "House of the Dragon" star Milly Alcock, who plays Supergirl, also known as Kara Zor-El.
Details about Schoenaerts' character remain undisclosed, but speculations suggest that he could be portraying Krem of the Yellow Hills, a villain featured in the Tom King and Bilquis Evely comic book run that inspires the film. In the comics, Krem murders the father of a young girl, drawing Supergirl into the conflict when he injures her beloved superpet, Krypto.
The film's plot reportedly veers from the earnest adaptations of Supergirl seen in previous iterations, embracing a grand science-fiction adventure. DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn has described it as "much more hardcore," highlighting Kara's traumatic upbringing on Krypton, where she witnessed countless deaths.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is the second project in DC Studios' revamped universe, following 2025's "Superman" starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. The film's screenplay is penned by Ana Nogueira, based on the DC comic run.
Matthias Schoenaerts is a renowned Belgian actor known for his roles in "Rust and Bone," "Red Sparrow," and "The Old Guard." His recent credits include the HBO miniseries "The Regime" with Kate Winslet.
"Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" is scheduled for a theatrical release on June 26, 2026, and will begin filming in the UK in January.
