David Packard Corenswet emerged as one of Hollywood's most prominent new leading men, achieving global recognition for his portrayal of the iconic superhero in Superman. An actor with classical training and a commanding screen presence, his career trajectory shifted from acclaimed television roles under the guidance of Ryan Murphy to landing the coveted part of Clark Kent in the DC Universe reboot directed by James Gunn. His journey from the stages of Juilliard to the forefront of blockbuster cinema defined his rise in the entertainment industry.
Born on July 8, 1993, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, David Corenswet was raised in a family with connections to the entertainment world; his father, John Corenswet, was an attorney and former stage actor. He developed an early interest in acting, making his professional debut at age nine in a Philadelphia theatre production. He later attended the Juilliard School in New York City, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2016. His formal training provided a strong foundation for the diverse roles he would later undertake.
Corenswet's professional breakthrough came through television. After guest spots on series like House of Cards, he was cast by producer Ryan Murphy in two consecutive Netflix series. He first played the charming and ambitious River Barkley in The Politician (2019-2020), followed by the role of aspiring actor Jack Castello in the post-World War II period drama Hollywood (2020). These high-profile projects established him as a versatile performer capable of handling both comedic and dramatic material. He further demonstrated his range with a serious turn as detective David McDougall in the HBO crime miniseries We Own This City in 2022.
The actor successfully transitioned to film with notable projects in 2022, starring in the romantic drama Look Both Ways opposite Lili Reinhart and appearing in Ti West's horror prequel Pearl. His career continued to build momentum with supporting roles in the 2024 disaster film Twisters and the Apple TV+ miniseries Lady in the Lake. However, it was in late 2022 that his career was permanently altered when he was cast as Clark Kent in Superman, a role that propelled him to international fame. The film, which began production in 2024 for a 2025 release, positioned Corenswet as the new face of a major superhero franchise.
Off-screen, David Corenswet married actress and writer Julia Best Warner in March 2023. With the release of Superman, he solidified his status as a leading man for a new generation, balancing the weight of an iconic character with the skilled artistry honed over years of dedicated work.
