AceShowbiz - Tommy Cash, a stalwart country musician and the younger sibling of the iconic Johnny Cash, has sadly passed away at the age of 84. The news of his passing was announced on Saturday, September 14, in an Instagram post by the Johnny Cash Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.
"We are deeply saddened to share that the world lost a shining light with the passing of Tommy Cash," read the statement from the museum's founder, Bill Miller. "He was a cherished friend and a beloved member of our extended family."
No cause of death was provided, but Tommy's passing comes just one day after the 21st anniversary of his brother Johnny's death. Tommy was born on April 5, 1940, in Dyess, Arkansas. He followed in his older brother's footsteps, enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving as a radio DJ for the Armed Forces.
Tommy's music career began to take shape after he signed his first record deal in 1965. In 1968, he released his debut album, "Here's Tommy Cash." His breakthrough hit came in 1970 with "Six White Horses," a tribute to John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr. The song reached the No. 4 spot on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart and was later covered by country great Waylon Jennings.
Over the years, Tommy released several other charting singles, including "Rise and Shine" and "One Song Away." He also collaborated with his brother Johnny on the 1990 single "Guess Things Happen That Way."
In addition to his music career, Tommy also worked as a Tennessee real estate agent, handling the sale of his brother Johnny and June Carter's house after their passing. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and legions of loyal fans worldwide.
Tommy Cash's funeral service will be held on September 18 in Henderson, Tennessee, where he resided at the time of his death.
