AceShowbiz - Born into a conservative Mormon family in Las Vegas, Nevada, Dan Reynolds, the frontman of Imagine Dragons, has a complicated relationship with religion. While he found some aspects of Mormonism harmful, particularly its stance on LGBTQ+ youth, he acknowledges that it has worked well for many in his family.
"There's obviously parts of the Mormon religion that I feel pretty strongly are harmful, especially to our gay youth," Reynolds told People magazine. "At times I feel pretty isolated from my family, but I also love them and am close to them."
Reynolds left the church in his 20s after feeling disillusioned and "duped." However, he no longer holds anger towards it. "If something works for someone, that's really wonderful and rare," he said.
Despite his departure, Reynolds remains close to his family, emphasizing his love and respect for them. "I have to love myself enough to follow my truth," he explained.
Reynolds and his ex-wife, Aja Volkman, have chosen not to raise their children in the LDS religion. "My greatest goal every day is to not manipulate my kids," he said. "I give them my thoughts and obviously try to protect them, but I also want them to have freedom to choose whatever they want."
Reynolds' relationship with actress Minka Kelly has provided a positive influence for both himself and his children. "They really love her," he said.
