AceShowbiz - Ian McKellen, known for his iconic roles in "Lord of the Rings" and "X-Men", has provided an update on his health following a recent stage injury. On June 17, McKellen (85) fell off stage during a performance of "Player Kings" in London's West End. The fall resulted in injuries to his wrist and neck, requiring hospitalization.
In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on July 2, McKellen revealed that his injuries are mending. However, his doctors have advised him to avoid work for several weeks to ensure a full recovery.
Due to his recovery, McKellen will not participate in the upcoming four-week tour of "Player Kings", where he plays Sir John Falstaff. His understudy David Semark will take over the role, having previously replaced McKellen for the final performances in London.
Despite his absence, McKellen encouraged fans to see the production. He praised the masterful production and the performances of his fellow actors.
This update follows an earlier statement from "Player Kings" announcing that McKellen would take time off to focus on his recovery. The theater production confirmed that McKellen is recuperating well and that his complete recovery is expected.
McKellen expressed his gratitude to the medical professionals who have cared for him and apologized to his audience for missing performances. However, he emphasized that Robert Icke's production of "Player Kings" remains intact and highly recommended.
