AceShowbiz - Hilarie Burton recently shared an uncomfortable experience she faced on her final day filming the teen drama "One Tree Hill." On the latest episode of her podcast, "Drama Queens", Burton recalls the day she filmed her character Peyton Sawyergave birth in the hospital.
Despite the end of her character's journey, Burton's departure from the show was less than celebratory. She reveals that the show's producers were in denial about her and Chad Michael Murray's actual departure. While everyone else had already wrapped filming, the two were left to shoot a final scene.
Murray managed to gather the cast to bid farewell to Burton, but the atmosphere was anything but uplifting. Burton recalls being confined to the bed due to prosthetics and feeling like she was lying in a coffin. Cast members exchanged awkward goodbyes, and Burton felt like she was attending her own character's funeral.
"Between the prosthetic that was on my belly, everything I was hooked up to and the positioning of the camera, it was better for me to just stay on the bed than it was to get up," Burton recalls. "Everyone was saying goodbye to me, but it felt like a funeral. I'm literally laying there like I'm in a coffin."
She continued, "James Lafferty comes up to the side of the bed and is like, 'Hey, uh, have a good summer.' It was so awkward and awful. People would put their head on my hair and say, 'Well, I'll see you next season,' and I kept being like, 'No you won't! What are you guys talking about?' It was an out-of-body experience, [like] being at my own character's funeral, knowing I wasn't going to see a lot of you [for years]."
Burton's podcast, "Drama Queens", which she co-hosts with Bush and Bethany Joy Lenz, has provided a platform for the show's stars to share their experiences and reveal behind-the-scenes issues. Despite her character's absence in the later seasons, Burton is expected to continue co-hosting the podcast.
