AceShowbiz - The 2024 Writers Guild Awards revealed its nominations on Wednesday, February 21. After being delayed due to Hollywood strikes, this year's award ceremony is set to honor the winners in screenwriting, television, new media, news, radio/audio, and promotional writing categories on Sunday, April 14.
"Barbie" is nominated in the category of original screenplay alongside "Air", "The Holdovers", "May December" and "Past Lives". Meanwhile, going up for the best adapted screenplay trophy are "American Fiction", "Are You There God? It's Me Margaret.", "Killers of the Flower Moon", "Nyad" and "Oppenheimer".
The nominees in the Documentary Screenplay category, meanwhile, include "Bella!", "It Ain't Over", "The Pigeon Tunnel", "Stamped from the Beginning" and "What the Hell Happened to Blood, Sweat & Tears?".
In the TV categories, "Succession" and "The Bear" lead the pack with three nominations each. "Succession" is nominated as the best drama series in addition to scoring two nominations in episodic drama category. In addition to receiving two nods in episodic comedy category, "The Bear" is going against "Abbott Elementary", "Barry", "Jury Duty" and "Only Murders in the Building" in best comedy series.
"The Crown", "The Diplomat", "Jury Duty", "The Last of Us" and "Poker Face" follow it up with 2 nominations each. Meanwhile, "The Simpsons" dominated the animation category with four out of the five spots for nominees.
