AceShowbiz - Jake Owen has responded to speculations that Taylor Swift's "Sparks Fly" is about him. In a new interview following the release of "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)", the country singer addressed the years-long rumors.
"It's a great song and the speculation has always been funny to me," the 41-year-old told PEOPLE on Wednesday, July 12 while at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada, where he was participating in the American Century Championship, presented by American Century Investments. "I'm sure Taylor probably laughs at it all too, but I'm happy to even have my name in the discussion around it."
The "Made for You" artist went on to sing the "Anti-Hero" hitmaker praises. "She's an amazing girl and an amazing artist," the singer/songwriter gushed. "It's been incredible to see how she's grown as a musician and what a global phenomenon she's become."
Taylor's fandom, who is known as Swifties, speculated that "Sparks Fly" was about Jake after she wrote "Portland, OR" on the song's liner notes. They believed that the singer was hinting at their performance in the city 17 years ago.
To back their theory, fan also tracked down an old post from Taylor's MySpace page, in which she recalled opening for Jake at a Portland bar in 2006. Detailing the moment she met Jake that night, the "Cruel Summer" songstress wrote in the post that the "Anywhere With You" crooner told her that he was a fan of her music. Fans took that as a clue that the two might've spent some time together which eventually led to Taylor writing "falling in love in an empty bar" on "Sparks Fly".
That aside, Taylor recently sent fans into a frenzy by releasing the song "When Emma Falls in Love" from her latest re-recorded album, "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)". Fans theorized that the song was about Emma Stone's past relationship with her "The Amazing Spider-Man" co-star Andrew Garfield.
