"I don't have words or any thoughts," she wrote, along with a picture of her late daughter smiling in a sparkly dress which she wore to a prom last month. "A beautiful baby girl is gone. Please give us privacy as we mourn the loss of Kailia. My baby forever."

Her stepfather Steve Gatterman later issued a statement in which they revealed the manner of her death. "Although she was an accomplished teenager with a bright future ahead of her, unfortunately in one impetuous moment, she made the rash decision to end her earthly life," read the statement.

They also begged with "members of the national media…please stop calling, texting, and messaging. Please stop bugging our friends and family" as they "have no further statement." The death is currently under investigation by multiple Washington agencies.
