AceShowbiz - Fans and investors wanting to snap up "The Matrix: Resurrections" non-fungible tokens (NFTs) will be able to choose between Red Pill or Blue Pill versions.
Buyers will be able to decide whether to take a "Blue Pill," which will keep their avatar The Matrix, or a "Red Pill," which will transform it into a resistance fighter, like Keanu Reeves' Neo.
The unique avatars, inspired by "The Matrix Resurrections" and "The Matrix" franchise, will go on sale on November 30 for $50 (£37) each.
The collectibles, created by bosses at Warner Bros. and NFT marketplace Nifty's, will represent characters in the artificial world of "The Matrix".
Social media staff at Nifty's - a play on the term "NFT" - tweeted the news on Tuesday, November 2, writing, "Wake up. On 11/30, collect your Matrix avatars exclusively on Nifty's. Created by Nifty's and @warnerbros, and made using Epic Games' MetaHuman Creator, these NFTs bring to life this iconic franchise in a whole new way. Follow the white rabbit."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, 100,000 avatars will be available and, in the coming months, users will be able to upgrade their purchases or earn new NFTs.
"We really think that theme, of digital identity, and choice, and owning that identity, resonates with the themes in The Matrix franchise," says Jeff Marsilio, CEO and co-founder of Nifty's.
Pam Lifford, president of WarnerMedia Global Brands and Experiences, adds, "It's another touchpoint for fans to engage, and another way we can entertain and provide great content.... Given that enthusiasm (for the franchise), and the very nature of what the Matrix story and settings are about, an NFT program seemed perfect."
