AceShowbiz - The absence of Laurence Fishburne's Morpheus in the fourth movie "The Matrix Resurrections" has been puzzling many fans. The actor recently got candid when discussing this topic on "The View".
In a revelation that surprised many, Fishburne disclosed that he had proactively offered his services for the fourth film, only to be turned down by the filmmakers.
"I offered my services to the fourth 'Matrix,' and they didn't respond well to that," Fishburne shared with the hosts. "So, hey, it's not like I didn't say, 'Oh, I'd like to offer you my services.' I did. And for whatever reason, that didn't happen."
This revelation added depth to his previous comments in 2020 when Fishburne mentioned that he had "not been invited" to return. At that time, he wished the new installment well but admitted that it did not fully meet his expectations.
While on "The View", Fishburne was also asked if he might participate in a potential fifth installment of the franchise. "It depends on the circumstances, who's involved, how well the script has been written, if they offer me [a part]," he said.
The fourth movie starred original cast members such as Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett Smith . The role of Morpheus was instead filled by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, portraying a version of the character in a storyline set 20 years after the events of "Revolutions".
Despite his absence in the latest Matrix film, fans can still look forward to seeing Fishburne in action. He will showcase his fighting skills in the espionage thriller "The Amateur", alongside Rami Malek, Rachel Brosnahan, and Jon Bernthal. Fishburne underwent intensive preparation for the intense choreography to avoid injuries during filming.
Whether or not Fishburne returns as Morpheus in the future remains uncertain, but his contributions to the original trilogy are indelible. Fans can only hope the right circumstances come together to bring him back to the Matrix universe.
