AceShowbiz - Joy Behar took her "The View" co-hosts by surprise with her comments on Carl Nassib, who recently came out as gay. In the Tuesday, June 22 episode of the talk show, Joy made an "inappropriate" joke about the football star that led to an awkward moment.
In the episode, the co-hosts discussed the 28-year-old Las Vegas Raiders' defensive end who made courageous decision by coming out, making him the first active, openly gay NFL player. Ana Navarro and Sara Haines noted that his coming out was "a big deal" considering that in a sport, it's full of "toxic masculinity."
Later, Ana admitted that she didn't know much about football and asked her co-hosts to tell her who he plays for. To that question, Joy responded, "Don't ask me, you're asking the wrong person. Ana, after they said penetration in the end zone, they lost me!"
Her remarks made most of her co-workers cringed. Ana was seen covering her ears, while Sara put her head down before covering her mouth. Sunny Hostin kept smiling while shaking her head before throwing up her hands. As for Meghan McCain, she looked unimpressed as she raised one of her eyebrows over the joke.
Joy apparently realized that she might go too far with her inapproriate joke as she said at the end of the discussion, "I just long for the day when you can just be gay in the world, and it doesn’t become a big deal." She continued, "By the way, that inappropriate joke I made for daytime television? Scratch it. Make believe I never said it."
On Monday, Carl took to his Instagram account to announce that he's gay after agonizing over it "for the last 15 years." In a video, Carl casually shared, "I'm at my house here in West Chester, Pennsylvania. I just want to take a quick moment to say that I'm gay. I've been meaning to do this for a while now, but I finally feel comfortable enough to get it off my chest."
He also mentioned that he got full support from his family, friends and team members. "I would not have been able to do this without them. From the jump, I was greeted with the utmost respect and acceptance," he wrote in a statement.
