The 'Boardwalk Empire' actor is teaming up with the 'Into the Badlands' director to work on a new television adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' classic story.

AceShowbiz - Actor Jack Huston is preparing to revamp literary classic "The Count of Monte Cristo" as a TV series for a new generation of fans.
The "Boardwalk Empire" star will write and executive produce the action/thriller, alongside his business partners Ian Duncan and Simon Boyes, and take on the lead role as Nicolas Cristo, a broken man seeking justice after spending a decade behind bars.
The show, inspired by the Alexandre Dumas story, will be set in Asia and the U.S., and directed by "Into the Badlands" 's Stephen Fung for Constantin Film officials.
In a statement, Huston, Duncan, and Boyes say, "It has long been a dream of ours to take what we consider to be one of the great works of literature and present it to a modern audience in a unique and compelling way."
"We couldn't be more excited to have partnered with Constantin, Stephen, and Tea Shop (producers) to reimagine this incredible story and bring it to life."
Adds Fung, "I am thrilled to board this journey with Jack, Ian, Simon and Constantin. I believe we share the same passion and excitement to reimagine this classic tale of revenge and redemption."
It's the latest adaptation of "The Count of Monte Cristo" - last summer (20), TV adventurer Bear Grylls was reported to be developing a modern movie remake of the story, which would focus on the friendship and rivalry that develops between two special forces soldiers sent to fight in Afghanistan.
The most recent notable version of "The Count of Monte Cristo" was released in 2002, starring Jim Caviezel and Guy Pearce, while actor Richard Chamberlain also previously starred as lead character Edmond Dantes, opposite Tony Curtis as Fernand Mondego, in a 1975 Emmy-nominated TV movie, directed by David Greene.
