The Years and Years frontman will star alongside the likes of Keeley Hawes, Stephen Fry and Neil Patrick Harris on the five-part series that will air on Channel 4 network in 2020.

AceShowbiz - Olly Alexander feels like "the luckiest boy in the world" after being cast in the lead role in Russell T. Davies' new TV drama "Boys".

The Years & Years frontman will play an 18-year-old gay man growing up "in the shadow of Aids" in the upcoming series, which will air on the U.K.'s Channel 4 network.

"I've been a fan of Russell T Davies ever since I watched (late '90s TV series) 'Queer as Folk' in secret at 14 years old," Olly said of his new gig, adding Davies' work "helped shape my identity as a gay person so I'm absolutely over the moon we'll be working together."

The five-part series will chart "the joy and heartbreak of four friends during a decade in which everything changed." Keeley Hawes, Stephen Fry, Neil Patrick Harris and Tracy Ann Oberman will also star in the show.

Olly has a string of film, TV and theatre credits to his name, appearing alongside Judi Dench and Ben Whishaw on London's West End, and in films including "The Riot Club" and "God Help the Girl. This will be the star's first major acting gig since his music career took off.

"Boys" will premiere next year.
