AceShowbiz - Nipsey Hussle's girlfriend Lauren London and his family got emotional during a tribute for the late rapper at the 2019 BET Awards. The "They Roll" hitmaker was honored with the Humanitarian Award at the Sunday, June 23 ceremony.

T.I. was on hand to present the award. While he introduced the Los Angeles-born emcee, Lauren and Nipsey's 10-year-old daughter Emani, who sat in the front row among the audience, were seen holding back tears.

Lauren then took the stage to accept the award along with Emani, Lauren and Nipsey's 2-year-old son Kross, Nipsey's sister Samantha Smith as well as his mother Angelique Smith, father Dawit Asghedom and grandmother.

Nipsey's grandmom expressed her deep gratitude at people's love for her grandson. "Everything has been said about my grandson that could be said... I was so amazed at how much love was out in the world for him that you uplifted me," she said with a trembling voice. "I accepted his life, as God said to me, 'Nipsey, you've done your job. You've left your mark. I'm welcoming you into heaven so you can rest.' And I love you with all my heart and soul. Thank you so much for loving him, too."

Lauren kept her speech short and simple, saying, "I just want to thank you guys for all of the love and support and the marathon continues again." Nipsey's mother recalled the time she got the power to accept her son's death before concluding her speech, "Thank you for your prayers and for your love. We appreciate that."

Nipsey's father added, "I wish my son was here to accept the award. And thank you BET for recognizing him." He noted that Nipsey wanted to be a part of BET Awards so badly and fulfilled his wish when he performed at last year's ceremony.

The tribute continued with a musical performance by Marsha Ambrosius who sang "Real Big". YG delivered a rendition of "Last Time I Checc'd", followed by John Legend and DJ Khaled who also honored Nipsey with an emotional performance of "Higher".

Speaking to ET backstage after seeing Nipsey's family to their tribute, John said, "It was moving just sitting there watching his family react to the song. It was a powerful moment. Honored to be there."

Nipsey was honored with the award for his work revitalizing his South Los Angeles neighborhood. Connie Orlando, Executive Vice-President, Head of Programming at BET, said last month, "As a prolific artist and leader, Nipsey Hussle was zealous about driving change for the betterment of his community, empowering and employing those in need and being an influential and highly respected leader."

"His passing was a tremendous loss to the entertainment industry and to the culture. We will continue to remember his advocacy and be inspired by the groundwork he set forth and his dire commitment to social change," he added. "We are forever grateful, humbled and honored to have experienced his presence and we are invested in doing our part to ensure that the marathon will indeed continue. It is an immense honor for us to recognize him with this year's Humanitarian Award."
