It has been reported that 'The Gift' star will take on the role of a slavecatcher Ridgeway on the upcoming series, which is based on Colson Whitehead's bestselling novel of the same name.

AceShowbiz - Actor Joel Edgerton is returning to TV to star in director Barry Jenkins' "The Underground Railroad", series.

Variety reports "The Gift" star has been cast as slavecatcher Ridgeway in the Amazon project, which will focus on the network of secret routes across America in the 19th century, allowing African-American slaves to escape from the South.

The series, based on Colson Whitehead's bestselling novel of the same name, will co-star actors Thuso Mbedu, Chase W. Dillon, and Aaron Pierre, and be directed and produced by the "Moonlight" filmmaker, in conjunction with officials from Brad Pitt's Plan B company.

The role marks Edgerton's first TV gig in a decade, after previously starring in Australian drama series "Dirt Game" back in 2009.

He also featured in the series "Dangerous" and "The Secret Life of Us" earlier on in his career Down Under.
