The 'Stranger Things' actor and the 'Fargo' actress are in talks to play a mother-son duo in Jason Reitman's upcoming movie.

AceShowbiz - Jason Reitman's "Ghostbusters 3" is close to finding its lead stars. Finn Wolfhard and Carrie Coon are reportedly in negotiations to star in the upcoming movie, which is developed as a continuation to the 1984 movie and is not related to the all-female reboot "Ghostbusters (2016)".

According to various sources, Coon is offered the role of a single mother with Wolfhard playing her son. Entertainment Weekly's Anthony Breznican further reports that the new sequel will focus on "a single mom and her family, who have mysterious ties back to the original 1984 movie."

Wolfhard and Coon's castings have not been confirmed and it's currently unknown who will play the rest of the family members. The news about the two actors' potential involvement, however, has drawn positive responses from fans, who initially blasted Reitman for saying that they would "hand the movie back to the fans." His statement was deemed an insult to Paul Feig's all-female reboot.

"I was mad at Jason Reitman's original comment about giving Ghostbusters 'back to the fans' (code for men) but if what he ACTUALLY meant by that is having Finn Wolfhard and Carrie Coon as a mother/son duo, SIGN ME UP BABY!!!!!!" one comments on the casting news.

Feig, meanwhile, has shown his support for Reitman and his new film. He wrote on Twitter in February, "Jason was a supporter of mine at a time when I couldn't get movies made. He has always been a true gentleman to me and a supporter of Ghostbusters: Answer the Call. I can't wait to see his take on the Ghostbusters universe. Big love and respect to you, Jason. Your fan, Paul."

It's still unknown if there's any of the original cast members like Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson or Bill Murray who will return for the upcoming movie. Harold Ramis, one of the original actors in the first two movies who also co-wrote the scripts with Aykroyd, passed away in 2014.

"Ghostbusters 3" will start shooting in a few months and is slated for a summer 2020 release. Reitman co-writes the script along with "Monster House" and "Poltergeist" remake filmmaker Gil Kenan.

Wolfhard is best known for his portrayal of Mike Wheeler on Netflix's hit series "Stranger Things" He went on to star in 2017's film adaptation of Stephen King's "It" and will reprise his role in the sequel, "It: Chapter 2".

As for Coon, she is known for starring as Nora Durst on HBO's series "The Leftovers". She landed a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie for her role in the third season of FX's anthology series "Fargo".
