Otto Bathurst has been hired to direct multiple episodes of the highly-anticipated video game adaptation after a delay in production forced Rupert to bow out from the project.

AceShowbiz - The highly-anticipated TV adaptation of hit video game "Halo" is set to move forward with "Robin Hood (2018)" director Otto Bathurst following filmmaker Rupert Wyatt's exit.

The man behind "Rise of the Planet of the Apes" had been developing the show for U.S. network Showtime since signing on in June (2018), when the project was dubbed the channel's "most ambitious series ever" by CEO and president David Nevins.

However, a delay in production forced Wyatt to step down from the project in December (2018), and now producers have hired Bathurst to take over at the helm for multiple episodes.

He will also serve as executive producer of the live-action drama, which will imagine an epic 26th Century conflict between humans and aliens.

Filming will begin later this year.

The TV show is said to be loosely based on the 2001 debut of the popular first person shooter game, "Halo: Combat Evolved", but it's not the first attempt at adapting the Xbox franchise for the screen.

"Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson was briefly attached to a "Halo" movie, scripted by author and filmmaker Alex Garland, but the project fell apart.

Microsoft chiefs then made plans to develop a TV series in 2013, as part of its Xbox Live original content drive, but that didn't come together either, while "Halo: Nightfall", a web series executive produced by Ridley Scott, was cancelled after one season.
