Alex Spiro clarifies that the 'Bank Account' rapper was targeted by ICE only for immigration enforcement whilst Brian Steel stands firm that the firearm retrieved didn't belong to the MC.

AceShowbiz - 21 Savage's legal team have denied his detention is due to the presence of a loaded gun when he was apprehended for alleged immigration violations.

The musician is currently in the custody of U.S. Immigration And Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials who picked him up in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, February 03, amid allegations he is a U.K. national who has been living in America illegally since 2006.

According to Atlanta police reports obtained by TMZ.com, officers pulled over the hip-hop star for driving recklessly and found a loaded Glock firearm in the vehicle's glove compartment.

However, lawyers hired for the 26-year-old, real name Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, by fellow rapper Jay-Z insist he is being wrongly held and that the weapon and car cited in the report are not his.

"ICE has confirmed he was targeted for immigration enforcement and nothing more," 21 Savage's attorney Alex Spiro told the Press Association. "He was never arrested by the police, and some other individual's firearm and vehicle is not our concern here."

Another member of his legal team, Brian Steel, asserted, "That was not his car and the gun retrieved is not his. No one will be falsely accusing my client. 21 Savage has done absolutely nothing wrong."

ICE officials allege he arrived in the country in 2005 as a 12-year-old and overstayed his visa. His lawyers have admitted the rapper was born in Britain, but are attempting to fight his deportation in court as they say his legal status expired in 2006 "through no fault of his own."

As well as Jay funding his legal fees, stars including Meek Mill, Cardi B, and Offset have backed 21 Savage's cause and a petition calling for his release has racked up 400,000 signatures.

The "Bank Account" hitmaker is nominated for two prizes at Sunday's (February 10) Grammy Awards, including the prestigious Record of the Year prize - for his collaboration with Post Malone, "Rockstar".
