Of joining the new spin-off series, the 'Crazy Rich Asians' star reveals that she's 'so excited to continue telling these rich 'Star Trek' stories.'

AceShowbiz - CBS All Access continues to expand its "Stark Trek" franchise. The network has announced that it is developing a new series, a "Star Trek: Discovery" spin-off, that will explore the story of Captain Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh).
The spin-off will focus on Capt. Georgiou's work with Starfleet's secretive Section 31, "a shadow organization within the Federation." The organization played a big role in the second season of "Star Trek: Discovery".
"Michelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries, and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades. As a human, I adore her. As an actor, I revere her," said Alex Kurtzman. "Erika [Lippoldt] and Boey are remarkable, exciting writers who bring a fresh perspective to the world of 'Star Trek', and we're all thrilled to explore the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou."
Of joining the new spin-off series, the "Crazy Rich Asians" star, who came fresh off her Best Comedy Movie at the 2019 Critics' Choice Awards for the flick, revealed that she's "so excited to continue telling these rich 'Star Trek' stories." She continued saying, "Being a part of this universe and this character specifically has been such a joy for me to play. I can't wait to see where it all goes -- certainly, I believe it will go 'where no WOMAN has ever gone before!' "
CBS Television Studios, Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment will produce the new project with Kurtzman, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth serving as executive producers. Aaron Baiers joins in as co-executive producer along with Bo Yeon Kim and Erika Lippoldt. As for Lippoldt, she will pen the script for the new series in addition to serve as showrunners alongside Kim.
The yet-untitled series is not the only "Star Trek" series that CBS is currently developing. A Jean-Luc Picard series starring Patrick Stewart is also in the works. "I will always be very proud to have been a part of 'Star Trek: Next Generation', but when we wrapped that final movie in the Spring of 2002, I truly felt my time with Star Trek had run its natural course," the "Logan" actor previously shared on Instagram before. "It is, therefore, an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard and to explore new dimensions within him. Seeking out new life for him, when I thought that life was over."
Additionally, an animated series titled "Lower Decks" is in development. Hailing from Mike McMahan, a writer for "Rick and Morty" and the upcoming Short Trek "The Escape Artist", the planned series has been ordered for two seasons on the network.
