On the eight-episode series, the stars will also be joined by John Slattery, Brandon Victor Dixon, Catherine Keener and Julia Garner.

AceShowbiz - Amazon has tapped a slew of A-listers to star on its upcoming anthology drama "Modern Love". The series, which is set to tell stories based on New York Times column and podcast, will star the likes of Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey and Dev Patel among others.

The stars will also be joined by John Slattery, Brandon Victor Dixon, Catherine Keener and Julia Garner. The cast also includes Andy Garcia, Cristin Milioti, Olivia Cooke, Andrew Scott, Shea Whigham, Gary Carr, Sofia Boutella and John Gallagher Jr.

Meanwhile, Sharon Horgan ("Catastrophe"), Emmy Rossum ("Shameless") and Tom Hall ("Sensation") have been attached as directors. Rossum will be directing an episode written by the late Audrey Wells with Horgan helming and writing an episode starring Slattery. John Carney ("Once", "Sing Street") is set to serve as writer, director and executive producer of the half-hour series in addition to being attached as showrunner.

"It's like I woke up in the actor candy store. We've managed to assemble a dream cast of my favorite actors," Carney said Monday, November 26 in a statement. "It's a testament to the reach of the original column and of how, now more than ever, love is the only certainty."

The eight-episode anthology series follows various sub-casts, reportedly exploring many forms of love including familial, platonic, and self-love. According to Amazon Studios' Jennifer Salke, "Modern Love" is looking to find the "next big show that women ... can't stop talking about."

Daniel Jones, who edits the "Modern Love" column, revealed to "CBS This Morning" co-host Gayle King last February he "came up with the name 'Modern Love' from the David Bowie song." He went on explaining, "I thought that would make it broad enough. ... We wanted it to be contemporary and I wanted to interpret love as broadly as possible."

"Some of the most moving stories to me are about family bonds and parenthood, those blood bonds that often are more complicated than romance," he shared.

"Modern Love" is currently in production in New York.
