The Portuguese soccer player has just surpassed the 'Come and Get It' singer's number of followers after trailing behind her for a long time.

AceShowbiz - Selena Gomez is no longer the queen of Instagram. The 26-year-old singer has to abdicate the throne as the most-followed person on the social media site to Cristiano Ronaldo after the soccer star surpassed her follower count on Monday morning, October 29.
As of press time, the Italian club Juventus player has 144,394,982 followers, while Selena is now second with 144,342,144 followers. The 33-year-old Portuguese-born athlete had been trailing behind the former Disney star for a long time.
Selena held on the title of the most-followed Instagram user for more than two years. The shift in rankings comes after the "Wolves" singer announced that she's taking a break from social media last month, before she entered a mental health treatment facility on October 11 to seek help for her depression and anxiety stemming from her recent hospitalizations.
"As much as I am grateful for the voice that social media gives each of us, I am equally grateful to be able to step back and live my life present to the moment I have been given," she wrote on her last post dated September 23. "Kindness and encouragement only for a bit! Just remember- negative comments can hurt anybody's feelings. Obvi."
She also said in an Instagram Live in late September about her relation with social media, "Numbers don't matter. None of this matters. I don't care how many followers I have. I don't. It's insane so many people are obsessed. Like, chill out."
A source gave an update on the "Spring Breakers" star's condition earlier this month. "Selena is currently resting and getting treatment for a series of panic attacks related to ongoing medical issues," the source told Us Weekly. "She's definitely improving every day ... She could come back soon. She's not in, like, a 30-, 60-, 90-day program. Her treatment is open-ended."
