AceShowbiz - TV bosses are moving forward with a third season of Morgan Freeman's hit series The Story of God after completing an internal sexual misconduct investigation.

The acting icon hit headlines in May when he became the subject of a CNN expose, in which eight women accused him of making ill-advised, harassing remarks on film sets and during publicity tours.

Freeman apologised, insisting he never meant to cause offence, and although none of the claims related to production on The Story of God, network officials at the National Geographic decided to halt plans for a new season while bosses at parent company Fox conducted their own investigation.

The movie veteran was cleared of any inappropriate behaviour on the set of the travel show, during which he explores the power of religion while visiting holy sites around the world, and now producers have announced filming will soon resume.

"The results of this investigation revealed no incidents of concern during any of our work with Mr. Freeman," National Geographic chiefs state to Deadline.

"We have now made the decision to move forward with the production of season three of The Story of God... We look forward to resuming pre-production this September."

The statement continues, "As a company, we take all issues of harassment very seriously and we're confidently assured by the results of the investigation. The new season will premiere globally on National Geographic Channels in 2019."

The new episodes were originally ordered in January.
