Listen: Calvin Harris Taps Sam Smith for New Song 'Promises'
Music

The song finds the 'Too Good at Goodbyes' hitmaker singing about searching someone whom he can hook up with in a nightclub.

AceShowbiz - Earlier this week, Calvin Harris announced that he would be releasing a new single entitled "Promises" featuring Sam Smith. After much anticipation, the song was finally released on Thursday, August 16 along with its lyric video.

The song finds the British singer singing about searching for someone whom he can hook up with in a nightclub. "I make no promises, I can't do golden rings/ But I'll give you everything," he soulfully sings over sensual production. "Magic is in the air, there ain't no science here/ So come get your everything." Singer Jessie Reyez is also featured in the song, though her contribution is small.

A music video for the song may be released in the coming days, considering that Calvin has posted on Instagram several photos of them in what appears to be a music video set. The lyric video itself is a grainy footage of a nightclub.

Fans of both stars are obviously loving the song, with many of them calling it a "dream" collaboration. "Such a unique and different song! Not that regular pop s**t!!" one fan writes. Another comments, "This is gonna be on repeat on my playlist I promise." One other simply dubs it "another old vibes banger."

The collaboration surely comes at a good time for Sam. The "Lay Me Down" singer was recently landed in hot water after a clip of him saying he didn't like Michael Jackson circulated online. In the video, which was accidentally posted by Adam Lambert, Sam could be heard telling him, "I don't like Michael Jackson, but this is a good song," as "Human Nature" played in the background. Adam deleted the video soon after.

However, someone actually saved the video and reposted it online. People have since slammed Sam over his opinion. Even Stephanie Mills blasted the singer, saying, "When you can sell as many records as the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, then maybe you can say something."

Sam has yet to respond to the backlash.
