The 'Ray Donovan' star attends a court hearing where he denies physically striking the paparazzo and asks a judge to dismiss the charges.

AceShowbiz - Liev Schreiber tersely denied striking a photographer outside a court hearing where he appeared to face harassment charges.

Liev was hit with a harassment charge after snapper Sherwood Martinelli alleged the "Ray Donovan" star damaged his camera to avoid being being photographed during a shoot for the hit U.S. TV series in suburban New York in June.

The 50-year-old appeared with his lawyer at the courthouse in Nyack, New York on Tuesday, August 14 to ask a judge to dismiss the charges, where he spoke to local outlet The Journal News and denied physically striking the paparazzo.

"I never touched him, I never touched his body with my body," Liev said, before adding: "I was p**sed, but that was it. I have nothing else to say."

His lawyer Jonathan Ripps told the court that although the actor is accused of pushing Sherwood's camera away after its flash went off, the incident "doesn't rise to the level of any law being broken".

At the hearing the presiding judge set a new court date of September 20, when he will decide on whether Liev's dismissal motion is successful.

The snapper, who turned up outside the hearing to photograph the star, shouted "liar" to him as he drove away in a car.

Speaking to The Journal afterwards he claimed the star was getting favourable treatment due to his fame.

Sherwood previously claimed that Liev charged at him "like a raging bull" and that the incident occurred on public property rather than on the show's set.

Ray Donovan's sixth season will air on U.S. network Showtime later this year.
