Instead of denying the allegations, Singer highlights his accuser's troubled financial past in his official response to the accusations.

AceShowbiz - Filmmaker Bryan Singer has accused his alleged rape victim of violating bankruptcy laws by failing to disclose plans to sue the director over the reported 2003 incident.

Cesar Sanchez-Guzman filed suit against Singer in December, claiming the "X-Men: Apocalypse" moviemaker forced him to perform oral sex and then anally penetrated him during a party on board a yacht in 2003, when the plaintiff was 17 years old.

Singer's representatives were quick to shoot down the accusations, and now his lawyers have officially responded to the legal action, demanding its dismissal.

According to TheBlast.com, Singer doesn't actually refute the allegations in the newly-filed documents, but instead calls into question his accuser's troubled financial past, highlighting his bankruptcy filing in 2014.

Sanchez-Guzman received a discharge of debts, releasing him of any legal requirement to pay back his creditors, but Singer questions why he failed to mention anything about his planned lawsuit for unspecified damages, because any potential winnings would have been considered an asset, and could have been used to help pay off his outstanding bills.

Singer claims that this is a violation of bankruptcy law, as debtors face penalties for making false statements about their finances, a charge which carries a five-year sentence, and/or a fine of up to $500,000 (£373,600).

He claims Sanchez-Guzman "should not now be permitted to benefit from his violation of the law", while he also argues the statute of limitations for the alleged incident has already expired.

Singer previously suggested the plaintiff's lawyer was purposefully targetting him, because he had also represented another former accuser, Michael Egan, who claimed he had been sexually assaulted by the director and other industry figures in his teens. He later retracted the accusations when his case fell apart.
