The Australian actress sported the same dress that she wore at the 2014 Golden Globes while styling her hair in an elegant updo.

AceShowbiz - Cate Blanchett became the latest star to recycle an old gown as she hit the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival on Tuesday, May 8 in familiar black lace Giorgio Armani Prive ball gown. The Australian actress, who is the jury chairman at the 10-day movie spectacular, helped to kick off the 71st Cannes, and turned heads with her decision to dig out a dress she'd worn before.

Her opening gala gown was the same one Cate wore to the 2014 Golden Globes, when she picked up a Best Actress award for her role in "Blue Jasmine". And she recycled her look too, opting for an elegant updo hairstyle and subtle make-up.

Black lace was a big hit on the red carpet, as it was the night before at the Met Gala in New York City. Penelope Cruz also opted for black lace as she premiered her new film "Everybody Knows" on the opening night of the festival. Penelope's gown was Chanel and she polished off her look with gems from the Atelier Swarovski Fine Jewelry collection.

Also attending the opening night gala at Cannes were Julianne Moore in Givenchy Haute Couture, Fan Bing Bing, Chloe Sevigny in Chanel, Benicio Del Toro and Georgia May Jagger among others.

Now the first night is over, Blanchett will get to work with fellow jury members, like Kristen Stewart and filmmakers Denis Villeneuve and Ava DuVernay, to pick the winner of the prestigious Palme D'Or prize at the end of the festival next week.

Earlier in the day, at a press conference, the Oscar winner promised to confound critics with her best film choices from the competition at Cannes, joking, "If critics think differently, that's wonderful."
