Carlos Munoz Portal was found dead with numerous gunshot wounds while scouting locations for the new season of the Netflix show.

AceShowbiz - Tragic news came from "Narcos" family. A location manager named Carlos Munoz Portal was found dead in Mexico. He was gunned down while scouting locations for the upcoming fourth season of the Netflix crime series in Mexico. He was 37.

"We are aware of the passing of Carlos Munoz Portal, a well-respected location scout, and send our condolences to his family," the streaming giant said in a statement. "The facts surrounding his death are still unknown as authorities continue to investigate."

According to reports, Carlos was found on Monday, September 11 in a remote area near the border sof Hidalgo. His body was reportedly riddled with bullets. He was discovered inside his car on a dirt road in San Bartolo Actopan in the muciplaity of Temascalapa in the State of Mexico.

Investigation is still ongoing, but local media reported that authorities had trouble putting together the circumstances that led to his murder. "We have no witnesses," reasoned a spokesman for the Attorney General of the State of Mexico.

The area where Carlos' body was found reportedly has one of the highest murder rates in Mexico. Carlos allegedly had a camera with him when he was scouting. "Maybe they thought he was collecting information and they started tracking him in a car," a friend told El Pais.

Carlos worked for Stacy Perskie's Mexico City-based production company Redrum. He had scouted locations for Hollywood's high-profile movies such as "Sicario", "Spectre", "Fast & Furious" and %cMel Gibson%'s "Apocalypto".

After cronicling the rise and fall of Colombia's Cali cartel in season 3, "Narcos" was initially planned to move from Colombia to Mexico for the next installment to depict the origins of the infamous Juarez cartel. It's unclear if the show will continue to film in Mexico or move back to Colombia following Carlos' murder.
