'The Leftovers' co-creator is in talks with the network to develop a TV adaptation of the DC comic series, which follows a group named Watchmen during their investigation.

"Watchmen" seemingly will be heading to small screen. "The Leftovers" co-creator Damon Lindelof is reportedly in talks with HBO to develop the TV adaptation of the DC seminal graphic novel by Alan Moore. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project is in the early development stages as an official deal has not been sealed yet.
First published in 1986 and collected in 1987, the limited comic series has its story set in an alternate universe, where the presence of superheroes has altered the course of history. The group called Watchmen encounters a massive and deadly conspiracy while investigating the murder of one of their own. The comic series was named as one of the 100 best novels by Time magazine.
Lindelof himself had previously said that he was a big fan of the comics and that they influenced his works. "From the flashbacks to the nonlinear storytelling to the deeply flawed heroes, these are all elements that I try to put into everything I write," he opened up in 2009 ahead of Zack Snyder-directed feature film take. Lindelof, who read "Watchmen" multiple times, also praised Snyder as he said, "It's the most married-to-the-original-text version of Watchmen that could've been made."
Starring Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman and Jackie Earle Haley, the feature film grossed $185 million at the worldwide box office. Snyder reportedly won't be involved in the TV adaptation as Lindelof's possible TV take will be a completely new and separate iteration from Snyder's.
Besides serving as the showrunner on "The Leftovers", Lindelof was a co-creator and showrunner on "Lost". He also penned many high-profile films, including "World War Z", "Star Trek Into Darkness" and "Prometheus".
