Series creator I. Marlene King and the cast announce on Facebook Live that the currently airing seventh season will be the last for the show.

AceShowbiz - All good things must come to and end. Despite still being one of rating juggernauts on Freeform, "Pretty Little Liars" is confirmed to end with the currently airing seventh season. After months of speculation, series creator I. Marlene King and the cast, including Lucy Hale, Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Shay Mitchell and Sasha Pieterse, confirmed the sad news on Facebook Live on Monday, August 29.

"Through brilliant storytelling, compelling characters and social media phenomena, 'Pretty Little Liars' paved the way for television shows, writers and cast to interact and engage with audiences on a national and global scale like never before, which led the series to unparalleled success," said Freeform exec vp programming and development Karey Burke.

King added, "It's been an honor to work with such a talented cast and crew over the last seven years. We are a family, and it will be hard to say goodbye to a show that has made such an impact on young audiences and been a mouthpiece for cultural change. I'm excited for fans to finally have all of their questions answered, and I believe they will be satisfied with the wild ride that is our last ten episodes."

She also pitched her new show "Famous in Love", which has been previewed in a new trailer. "I am also thrilled to embark on my next endeavor 'Famous in Love' with Bella Thorne and for 'PLL' fans to get wrapped up in Paige's rise to stardom and the pitfalls of Hollywood," she said.

In an interview with Variety, Burke said the decision to end "PLL" was due to the creative reason. "They were entirely creative. It's rare that you have a chance to send a series out on top, which the feeling very much was that this would achieve. It ultimately comes down to [showrunner] Marlene [King] and her vision, and her sense of where the natural place for the narrative to end was, and this was that," she said.

Asked about rumors of a "PLL" movie, she responded, "Oh no, this is really the end. The community surrounding the show is very protective over it. ... I think the reason there has been speculation is because I think the people involved love doing the show. It's not a show that really anybody wanted to leave or wanted to end. I think the community around the show has formed a wonderful family who would want to continue to work together, as long as it made sense for the story. As much as there's a lot of wishful thinking and speculation surrounding anything like this, this has been the understood and agreed-upon natural finishing point."

Teasing the series finale, Burke said, "I think they will be glad that they stayed on the ride. It's mind-blowing, it's provocative, it's everything the audience has come to expect from the show. It's unexpected, and completely and totally satisfying."

"PLL" will air its summer finale on Tuesday, August 30 at 8/7c before going on a long hiatus and returning with the last 10 episodes in 2017. King said of the upcoming outing, "One of the Liars' life will change drastically after a certain reveal is exposed. There are two big emotional game changers for multiple liars."

Similar news comes from "Grimm" on NBC. The supernatural crime drama series is set to end after the upcoming sixth season, the network has confirmed. The new and final series will premiere January 6 and air on Fridays at 8 P.M., an hour earlier than the previous five seasons.

Heading into the final season, the nefarious forces of Black Claw have been silenced and Nick (David Giuntoli) faces an all too familiar foe in Capt. Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz). Now in the seat of power as the mayor elect of Portland, Renard is poised to bring rise to his own brand of law and order. Nick must take a stand to protect his city and those closest to him, especially his child with Adalind (Claire Coffee). It will take the full force of Nick and his allies to find a way to bring the peace.

Meanwhile, Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell) and Rosalee (Bree Turner) grapple with bringing a child into a new and tumultuous world, and Eve (Bitsie Tulloch) faces unsettling identity issues as her former self lurks below the surface.
