Maroon 5's blood-filled and NSFW "Animals" music video is dangerous, says the Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network (RAINN). The anti-sexual assault group has issued a statement in which they express their disappointment, saying the explicit clip directed by Samuel Bayer glorifies troubling stalking behavior.
"Maroon 5's video for 'Animals' is a dangerous depiction of a stalker's fantasy - and no one should ever confuse the criminal act of stalking with romance," they write. "The trivialization of these serious crimes, like stalking, should have no place in the entertainment industry."
They add, "Survivors everywhere can get help 24/7 through the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE and online.rainn.org." Maroon 5's representative has yet to respond to RAINN's statement.
"Animals" is a single off Maroon 5's latest chart-topping album, "V". The track's music video was released earlier this week, featuring frontman Adam Levine as a butcher who quietly stalks a customer played by his real-life wife Behati Prinsloo.
The eerie visuals also draws criticism from another group, the National Sexual Violence Resource Center. According to TMZ, the group blasted Levine for treating his own wife like a piece of meat.
