Mark Strong Talks 'Robin Hood' Villain
Movie

Having traded his Guy of Gisborne role with villainous Sir Godfrey part, Mark Strong described his new character in 'Robin Hood' as 'a bit of a bastard'.

While not much has been uncovered of Ridley Scott's "Robin Hood", Mark Strong has given a tiny bit of light about his Sir Godfrey character in the project. Talking to Empire Online at the 2009 Jameson Empire Awards, the "RocknRolla" actor described his villainous character as "a bit of a bastard".

"I play King John's right-hand man who is a bit of a bastard - there's lot of horse riding, lots of threatening people with enormous swords," Strong said of Sir Godfrey. He also explained his role's transition from Guy of Gisborne to Godfrey, saying "A year ago I was playing the Guy of Gisborne character but the story isn't the Robin Hood story. Although all the characters are all involved, it's a different narrative."

"Robin Hood" is the working title given for the Ridley Scott-directed adventure film which was once named "Nottingham". Aside from Mark Strong, it will have Russell Crowe starring as the titular character and Cate Blanchett as Maid Marian. They will be supported by a list of actors from Vanessa Redgrave to Kevin Durand. The movie is slated for May 14, 2010 U.S. release.
