AceShowbiz - After years of anticipation that ultimately fizzled out, Disney has officially ended development on its Robin Hood live-action project. The film, which was announced back in 2020 as a CGI-driven remake similar to the studio’s approach with The Lion King, will no longer move forward. This news was confirmed by Carlos López Estrada, director of Blindspotting, during a Reddit AMA where he revealed, “It’s dead, sadly.”

The project was initially set to be written by Kari Granlund, who previously worked on the 2019 live-action version of Lady and the Tramp. The producer behind the live-action Dumbo was also attached to the film. However, no casting announcements or further updates had been made in the six years since the film’s announcement, hinting that the project was likely stalled or abandoned.

López Estrada expressed disappointment over the cancellation, noting that he believed the film had something unique to offer. He mentioned that they had even developed “truly extraordinary music” for the production. Despite the official shutdown, he remains hopeful about the possibility of revisiting the concept independently with a different approach and characters.

Given that the Robin Hood story is in the public domain, he suggested that a new interpretation could be created with legally distinct animal characters, though he humorously pointed out the challenge since the Disney version also features a goose character. While Disney’s live-action Robin Hood is now officially shelved, fans may still see fresh adaptations from other creators in the future.
