Lewis Capaldi Biography

news-detailsBorn on October 7, 1996, Lewis Capaldi has been familiar with music since childhood. He learned how to play drums and guitar when he was merely two years old, but his love for music only sparked two years later when he performed at a holiday camp. His early love for music made him determined to be a professional musician by the time he was 12. Receiving support from his parents, the Scotland native went through his school without focusing much on academics.

Hoping for a professional debut, Capaldi started off by producing his own music and releasing them on his YouTube and SoundCloud account. He was soon discovered by Ryan Walter, who helped him release his first track "Bruises" on March 31, 2017. Thanks to the song, he became the fastest unsigned artist to reach a quarter million plays on Spotify. The success of the song led him to sign a deal with Virgin EMI Records and Capitol Records. Later in October, he released his first EP "Bloom EP".

A rising star, Capaldi was invited to support many well-known bands and musicians, including Rag'n'Bone Man and Milky Chance. His performances on the tour eventually attracted Niall Horan, who later invited him to support him on two dates on his "Flicker World Tour" in March 2018. Months later, he served as the opening acts for Sam Smith's "The Thrill of It All European Tour". Capaldi also played at many famous festivals throughout the summer of 2018, such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Reading & Leeds Festival.

Later in November, Capaldi released his second EP entitled "Breach" that included his breakthrough single "Someone You Loved". The song became his first No. 1 single on U.K. Singles Chart and spent seven consecutive weeks atop the chart. In the United States, the song was a sleeper hit, reaching No. 4 on Billboard's Hot 100 after spending 18 weeks on the chart.

Following the success of the single, the singer announced in April 2019 that he would be embarking on an arena tour in the following year. The tickets for his tour quickly sold out in ten minutes, making him the first artist in the global history to announce and sell out an arena tour before the release of a debut album. His first studio album, "Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent", was released in May and became the fastest-selling album of the year. It topped the U.K. chart for five weeks and was certified Gold.
