Inspired by a true story, "Fresh Off the Boat" set in the mid-90's and 12 year old, hip-hop loving Eddie Huang (Hudson Yang) and his family are adjusting to their new lives in suburban Orlando. New schools, new friends, new neighbors... new traditions, yet still maintaining true to their family values and their continual pursuit of the American Dream.

Dad, Louis (Randall Park), moved his family from Chinatown in Washington D.C. and turned the once struggling "Cattleman's Ranch" into a successful steakhouse fully equipped with a mechanical bull. Mom, Jessica (Constance Wu), has found her own success as a real-estate agent yet still finds time to shop the bargain bin for back to school clothes and bond with next door neighbor Honey (Chelsey Crisp) over cocktails and Stephen King novels.

Meanwhile, Eddie is growing up and becoming more independent, sometimes defying his overbearing mother's old-school parenting style, but eventually realizes that she's got nothing but love for him and his brothers. Emery (Forrest Wheeler), the middle child and hopeless romantic, has no problem with the ladies, including the rollerblading stay-at-home moms in the neighborhood and often conspires with baby brother Evan (Ian Chen), the mama's boy.
