Two twin sisters are separated at birth, one is adopted by a rich family (Sutton) and the other (Emma) becomes the product of a broken foster system. When the girls find each other, they are determined to figure out how they were separated. Sutton is positive that her current rich parents did something illegal to get her.
Meanwhile, after being accused of committing a crime and running away from a terrible foster home, Emma takes a bus to Sutton's home. When Emma arrives, Sutton tells her she is leaving to track down a lead in Los Angeles about their birth mother and Emma will need to play Sutton while she's gone. Emma struggles with playing the abrasive, calculating Sutton but looks forward to meeting up with her once she returns from LA.
