Goren is at his neighborhood bar when he's approached by Mike Stoat, a former cop who's been suspended for six months because of drugs. He had said he was undercover and used coke so he didn't blow his cover but he was suspended nonetheless.
Goren joins Stoat on his "side job" as a security guard to earn extra money. Meanwhile, John Testarossa, a hotshot drug czar kills Dean Crawford in cold blood and also kills the two unsuspecting tourists who happened to witness the murder.
Eames is assigned the case, with Detective Daniels who is filling in for Goren. Crawford's partner Keyshawn Powell is sought for questioning and they find him in a compromising position with his court- appointed therapist.
Goren does well at his new job, where Testarossa is his boss, and Stoat's too. Goren spots two undercover cops and gives Testarossa the heads up and they party together. Goren is also seen leaving Dr. Olivet's office, but he is actually seeing Ross. Goren is undercover, he's technically in purgatory but he is also trying to infiltrate Testarrossa's crew.
Eames and Daniels question Officer Lois Melago, who works with Stoat. She was busted for drinking and is no longer a detective, she's writing parking tickets and is very bitter. Testarossa instructs Goren to shoot Gomez, a "customer" and as his gun is pointed at him (Goren really doesn't want to pull the trigger) Eames and Daniels bust in and Eames' gun is pointed at Goren.
Eames is really upset when she finds out Goren was working undercover and she didn't know it. Ross takes the blame for that. Meanwhile, Melago's partner rolls on her so they get her for taking 6 ounces of coke from a bust. It's enough to get Testarossa when Stoat and Melago cooperate, and Goren is back on the job, although it's still a little icy between him and Eames.
