The singer has banned plastic from backstage of his tour venues and urged fans at the show to clean up the world's waterways.

AceShowbiz - Rocker Jackson Browne has turned his latest tour into a no-plastic zone after learning all about the extent of a Pacific Ocean dumping ground for bottles and packaging. At a concert in New York on Wednesday night, September 15, Browne dedicated his song "Rock me on The Water" to "my friends who are preserving the ocean" and urged fans at the show to do their bit to clean up the world's waterways.

He said, "I travel all over the world to surf and they tell me to go to Antarctica and Patagonia, all these really far pristine places in the world. But they say there's plastic washing up on the beaches. We started hearing about these Pacific garbage patches with this big concentration of plastic, twice the size of Texas, in the Pacific Ocean. This has inspired me to have a plastic free tour."

"We carry our own filters and we started drinking from these metal reusable containers. We have the Brita company who makes these filters and we suggest they put them in the lobby of the venues. We're trying to get people who come to our shows to protect their health and drink out of these metal water bottles and we're trying to get venues to put up the concept of people drinking this filtered water for free."
