AceShowbiz - Dame Dash recently opened up about how his relationship with Aaliyah started and shared his views on Jay-Z’s efforts to capture her attention. During an interview on The Jason Lee Show, Dame Dash described how Aaliyah had many suitors before their romance began.
Dame Dash noted that Aaliyah, who tragically died in a plane crash in 2001 at age 22, was open to going on dinner dates with many admirers but was selective about intimacy. He explained that many people were deeply enamored with her during that period.
The turning point, according to Dame Dash, was an all-white party hosted by Sean Combs—known as Diddy—on July 4, 2000. At this event, both he and Jay-Z were actively trying to win over Aaliyah’s favor. Dame Dash described it as a competition where both men were “throwing in their bid” for her attention, with the atmosphere remaining competitive until one succeeded.
He admitted that his initial intentions were casual, but his feelings evolved into love over time. Additionally, Dame Dash alleged that Jay-Z strategically positioned himself in photos with Aaliyah at the party to give the impression they were close.
Dame Dash was in a relationship with Aaliyah from 2000 until her passing in 2001. Later, he married fashion designer Rachel Roy in 2005; they separated in 2009 and share two daughters, Ava and Tallulah. Aside from his children with Roy, he has a son, Lucky, with Cindy Morales, and another son, Boogie, with Linda Williams. In 2020, he welcomed a son named Dusko with his wife Raquel Horn.
