Fox confirms no new season for So You Think You Can Dance, while renewing over a dozen other reality hits for the 2026-27 season.

AceShowbiz - Fox has announced that there are currently no plans to order another season of So You Think You Can Dance, the long-running dance competition series that has not aired new episodes for nearly two years. Fox Entertainment president Michael Thorn stated during a recent press call that although the show remains significant in the network's history, there are no formal plans to bring it back at this time.
Despite the pause on So You Think You Can Dance, Fox's unscripted programming slate remains strong heading into the 2026-27 television season. The network has renewed numerous popular reality and competition shows, including Beat Shazam, Celebrity Name That Tune, Celebrity Weakest Link, Crime Scene Kitchen, Don't Forget the Lyrics, Extracted, Fear Factor: House of Fear, The Floor, Gordon Ramsay's Secret Service, Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, LEGO Masters, The Masked Singer, Next Level Chef and its baking spin-off, 99 to Beat, and Special Forces: World's Toughest Test.
Additionally, Fox has greenlit a new reality series titled Marriage Market, which will explore the lives of singles who allow their closest family members to arrange their marriages. This addition complements the network's broad unscripted lineup planned for the upcoming season.
The show So You Think You Can Dance originally premiered on Fox in 2005. British TV presenter Cat Deeley took over as host starting in Season 2, after entertainment reporter Lauren Sánchez hosted the first season. Contestants who advanced through auditions and intensive boot camps—often held in Las Vegas—competed in live shows featuring duets, group performances, and solos across diverse dance styles. The competition culminated in the crowning of one dancer as America's Favorite Dancer.
Over its many seasons, the series experimented with its format. Season 12 introduced a "Stage vs. Street" theme, while Season 13 focused exclusively on young dancers aged 8 to 13. The 18th season, which may be the final one, adopted a fully pre-recorded format emphasizing entertainment-themed weekly challenges rather than the traditional live duets. New judges Allison Holker and Maksim Chmerkovskiy joined returning judge JoJo Siwa for this season, replacing previous panelists.
The show has also faced controversy. In Season 17, former Glee star Matthew Morrison was removed from the judging panel amid misconduct allegations and replaced by actress Leah Remini. Subsequently, series creator Nigel Lythgoe, who was set to return as a judge after a hiatus, stepped away following multiple sexual assault lawsuits, including accusations from former collaborators like Paula Abdul.
The latest season of So You Think You Can Dance concluded in May 2024 with Anthony Curley winning the competition. While the future of the series remains uncertain, Fox continues to prioritize a variety of unscripted shows in its programming lineup.
