AceShowbiz - The hit Prime Video series The Boys concluded its fifth season with a brutal and bloody finale that delivered on fans’ expectations for vengeance and shocking deaths. Season 5, episode 8, titled "Blood and Bone," wrapped up many storylines involving the Supes, including the fates of Homelander (Antony Starr), Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles), and others.
One of the most pivotal moments was how Homelander lost his powers. Using her newly acquired anti-Supe abilities, Kimiko (Karen Fukuhara) was able to strip Homelander of his god-like strength after he had taken control over America. This marked the first time viewers saw him in a vulnerable state, drastically different from his usual invincible and ruthless persona.
Did Homelander die in the finale? Yes. His demise was as violent as it was symbolic. Butcher (Karl Urban) seized the moment to publicly dismantle Homelander, literally beating him to death on live television. The final blow came when Butcher drove a crowbar through Homelander’s skull, ending not only his physical reign but also humiliating the would-be dictator in front of the nation.
The deaths didn’t stop with Homelander. Several other significant characters met their end in the finale. Oh Father (Daveed Diggs) perished during the climactic battle at the White House. Mother's Milk (Laz Alonso) delivered the fatal counterattack by forcing Oh Father’s own sonic ability back at him using a ball gag, resulting in an explosive end for Oh Father.
The Deep (Chace Crawford) also faced a grim fate. After siding with Homelander, he was dragged into the ocean by Starlight (Annie) and was ultimately killed by sea creatures, including an octopus that wrapped its tentacles around his head, marking a brutal and symbolic end to his arc.
Butcher’s dog Terror’s death was another heartbreaking moment that pushed him toward his own downfall. Despite eliminating Homelander and stopping his authoritarian ambitions, Butcher still attempted to unleash a virus to wipe out the Supes altogether. This plan was thwarted when Hughie (Jack Quaid) shot Butcher fatally, and Butcher succumbed to his wounds in Hughie’s arms.
Interestingly, Soldier Boy did not appear in the final episode. His last on-screen moment was in the penultimate episode, where Homelander strangled him unconscious and left him on the ice to deal with later. His ultimate fate remains ambiguous, leaving the door open for future developments, especially with the upcoming "Vought Rising" scheduled for release in 2027.
Ryan, the young Supe, survived the violent finale. His future is purposely left uncertain, presenting a potential new path ahead. After witnessing Butcher’s tragic decline, the series hints at Ryan possibly becoming a better Supe than either Homelander or Butcher ever were, leaving fans intrigued about his next steps.
In summary, the finale of The Boys season 5 delivered a merciless conclusion for many key characters, most notably Homelander’s downfall and death. The episode balanced intense action, emotional farewells, and set up future storylines, especially with unresolved arcs like that of Soldier Boy and Ryan.
The bloody ending of "Blood and Bone" not only ended the current season on a high note but also left viewers eagerly awaiting what the next chapter of the series will bring.
