AceShowbiz - A video circulating online showed Bruce Springsteen seemingly ignoring former New Jersey governor Chris Christie during a recent Brooklyn concert, sparking widespread speculation about a possible rift between the two. The clip, which went viral over the weekend, was picked up by outlets such as TMZ, New York Post, and Fox News.
However, Jon Landau, Springsteen's longtime manager, responded directly to Rolling Stone, dismissing the claims as a misunderstanding. "Current stories claiming a break in the friendship between Bruce and Chris Christie are absurd," Landau said. He emphasized that the two have been longtime friends and noted that Christie was attending his 180th Springsteen show as a guest. Landau added, "We hope to see him at our next 180 shows, as our guest. Period."
The moment in question occurred near the end of the May 14 show at Barclays Center during the song "10th Avenue Freeze-Out," a signature part of Springsteen's concerts where he interacts with the crowd. After moving through the audience, Springsteen returned to the stage area where Christie was standing at the side with his hand extended for a high five. The video shows Springsteen walking past without reciprocating the gesture, which many interpreted as a deliberate snub.
Upon closer examination, however, the footage reveals that Springsteen was focused on his performance and initially turned away from Christie. Earlier in the song, he even acknowledged Christie with a cheerful, "Come on, gov," indicating no ill will. The split-second missed high five appears to be more a case of timing and focus than any personal slight.
Speculation about a falling out was fueled by the political differences between the two figures. Springsteen is a vocal Democrat and critic of former President Donald Trump, while Christie is a Republican who supported Trump early in the 2016 primary and served as a debate coach during Trump’s first term. Nevertheless, Christie distanced himself from Trump following the January 6 Capitol insurrection and challenged him in the 2024 Republican primary, later becoming a frequent media critic of Trump.
Despite the political divide and the viral moment, the official stance from Springsteen's team is clear: there is no feud between the two men. Their friendship remains intact, and Christie continues to be welcomed at Springsteen concerts as a guest.
