AceShowbiz - Netflix is set to release a new film titled A Matter of Time, starring Ben Stiller, Nicholas Galitzine, and Bella Maclean. The announcement came during the streamer’s upfronts event in New York City, where it was revealed that Harry Bradbeer will direct the project.
The screenplay for A Matter of Time is credited to a team of writers including Justin Haythe, Madeleine George, Peter Byrne, and Simon Beaufoy. The story centers on an "unlikely angel" who leaves heaven to inspire a reclusive man to change his life for the greater good of society. The man agrees to this mission, and the encounter refocuses his life, sparking a romance that may have far-reaching consequences.
Produced by Debra Hayward and Larry Mark, the film is a Sony Pictures project that landed on Netflix through the studio’s first-look deal with the streaming giant. Michael Dreyer is serving as executive producer.
This announcement was part of a larger slate of film news shared by Netflix during the upfronts, which also included confirmation that Grown Ups 3 is in development with Adam Sandler attached.
Ben Stiller, who has recently concentrated on directing acclaimed projects like Severance and Escape at Dannemora, has returned to acting with lead roles in 2024’s Nutcrackers and a supporting role alongside Adam Sandler in last year’s Netflix sequel Happy Gilmore 2. He is also slated to appear later this year in Apple’s pickleball comedy The Dink and Universal’s Focker-in-Law.
Nicholas Galitzine stars as He-Man in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming Masters of the Universe, which is scheduled for release next month. Meanwhile, Bella Maclean is known for her roles on popular series such as Sex Education and Rivals.
Harry Bradbeer brings notable directorial experience to the film, having helmed the Enola Holmes films and attached to direct the thriller adaptation Eight Perfect Murders. His TV credits include critically acclaimed shows like Fleabag, Killing Eve, and Spider-Noir. Bradbeer is represented by UTA and United Agents.
The theme of angels appears to be resonating in Hollywood currently. For instance, Keanu Reeves starred as a struggling guardian angel in the comedy Good Fortune, featuring Seth Rogen and Aziz Ansari, which Lionsgate released in October. Additionally, Prime Video recently aired the finale of its angel-themed series Good Omens.
With A Matter of Time, Netflix continues to expand its diverse film offerings, combining star power with a unique narrative that explores themes of redemption, societal change, and unexpected romance through a celestial lens.
