Their connection began years earlier during their involvement in the touring production of Burn The Floor which started in 2006.

During an appearance on the May 11 episode of the Penthouse With Peta podcast, the 40-year-old professional dancer shared candid reflections on their early romance, emphasizing that unlike many of her past relationships, Sasha was a genuinely kind partner.

Sharna Burgess explained, "I talk about how I've dated so many a--holes. He was not one of them." She recalled how their friendship evolved into something more while they toured together, describing Sasha, now 42, as a "sweet boyfriend" who entered her life at a pivotal moment. She mentioned he helped her rediscover joy during a challenging period in her early 20s.

She reminisced about their initial approach to dating, highlighting a memorable night on tour in Reno, Nevada. "Sasha's room and I-we were next door to each other," she said. "One night, my bold little self just went over and knocked on his door and was like, 'Hi.'" Although the exact length of their relationship is unclear, she indicated they stayed together for most of her six-year tenure on Burn The Floor.

The relationship ultimately ended when Sharna had to leave the tour to care for her ailing father. This separation proved difficult, and the couple parted ways during a video call over Skype. "When I was home, it was just too hard," she recalled. "I never knew when I was going to be back on tour again. Sash was with the tour, and it was like, 'When are our wires in our lives' paths ever going to cross again?'"

Despite the breakup, the two have since reunited professionally on Dancing with the Stars and moved on to find love with other partners. Sharna has been with her fiancé, Brian Austin Green, with whom she shares a 3-year-old son named Zane, for over five years. Meanwhile, Sasha Farber was married to their DWTS castmate Emma Slater from 2018 to 2024 and recently began a relationship with actress Janel Parrish.

Reflecting on the past relationship in 2020, Sharna expressed that she has made peace with their split, recalling how her late father adored Sasha. "Dad loved Sash," she shared in a YouTube video featuring her father Raymond Eric Burgess. She concluded, "We were never ever meant to be together."
