AceShowbiz - Theodore Shapiro was celebrated as a BMI Icon at the 2026 BMI Film, TV and Visual Media Awards held on May 13 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. The award honored his extensive contributions to film and television music over the past 25 years.

The event highlighted the achievements of composers behind the previous year’s top-grossing films, highest-rated primetime network television shows, leading cable and streaming programs, as well as video games. Alongside the Icon Award, Theodore Shapiro also received three standard BMI Awards for his scores on Another Simple Favor, Severance, and The Housemaid, increasing his total BMI Award count to 28.

Mike Steinberg, BMI’s executive vice president and chief revenue & creative officer, presented the BMI Icon Award to Theodore Shapiro. Steinberg praised his “incomparable and enduring contributions” to film and television music and expressed excitement about his future projects.

During the ceremony, a tribute video featured messages from Theodore Shapiro’s family and collaborators such as Paul Feig, Chris Fogel, Ludwig Göransson, Karyn Kusama, Jay Roach, Sam Schwartz, and Ben Stiller, celebrating his musical legacy.

Upon accepting the award, Theodore Shapiro expressed gratitude toward BMI for their support of composers and thanked his peers and collaborators present at the event. He emphasized the strong community bond shared by those in the industry and called it an honor to receive the award in their presence.

Theodore Shapiro has earned two Primetime Emmy Awards for his work on Apple TV+’s SeveranceSeverance in 2022 and 2025. His first Emmy nomination came in 2012 for scoring HBO’s Game Change. Beyond the Emmys and BMI honors, he has also received multiple Hollywood Music in Media Awards. His recent projects include scoring The Devil Wears Prada II, Focker in Law, and the Apple TV+ miniseries The Off Weeks.

The BMI Icon Award is a prestigious honor previously given to renowned composers such as Terence Blanchard, Mychael Danna, Alexandre Desplat, Ramin Djawadi, Harry Gregson-Williams, James Newton Howard, Christopher Lennertz, Thomas Newman, Rachel Portman, Mike Post, Atticus Ross, Alan Silvestri, Brian Tyler, and John Williams.

At the 2026 ceremony, Atli Örvarsson earned the most awards with six wins. Other multiple award recipients included Dominic Lewis, Brian Tyler, Ramin Djawadi, Fil Eisler, Christopher Lennertz, Mike Post, Atticus Ross, and Alan Silvestri.

The event also honored other distinguished composers including Sherri Chung for Found, Alexandre Desplat for Jurassic World Rebirth, Harry Gregson-Williams for The Gilded Age, Ludwig Göransson for Sinners, Gustavo Santaolalla for The Last of Us, and Sarah Schachner for Predator: Badlands.

Among the 19 first-time award winners celebrated were Joshua Carro, Zach Cregger, Ilan Eshkeri, Michael Griffin, Hays Holladay, Ryan Holladay, Alexis Martin, and Antonio Sanchez, showcasing new talent in the industry.
