AceShowbiz - The Chain is an upcoming limited series for HBO starring Jodie Comer, set to be helmed by acclaimed creator Damon Lindelof. The show adapts Adrian McKinty’s bestselling thriller novel, weaving a tense narrative around a chilling criminal network.
Jodie Comer plays Rachel, a divorcée undergoing cancer treatment who receives a terrifying phone call: her daughter, Kylie, has been kidnapped and ensnared in a sinister scheme known as The Chain. To secure Kylie’s release, Rachel must kidnap another child after paying a ransom. This relentless cycle continues as each victim’s parents are forced to perpetuate the chain by abducting yet another child.
The series is created and showrun by Damon Lindelof, marking his first time as showrunner since HBO’s Watchmen. Lindelof is also an executive producer and co-writer of the pilot script, alongside Carly Wray, with Breannah Gibson contributing to the pilot story. The mythology of McKinty’s award-winning novel will be expanded in the television adaptation, though specific plot details remain closely guarded.
The limited series will run for eight episodes. Executive producers include Michael Ellenberg and Lindsey Springer for Media Res, which co-produces the series with HBO. Shane Salerno, Breannah Gibson, and Joe Iberti also serve as executive producers, while Adrian McKinty acts as co-executive producer.
This project is the first collaboration under Lindelof’s overall two-year deal with HBO, which began in September 2025. Media Res, known for producing titles such as The Morning Show and Pachinko, is the co-studio behind the series.
Jodie Comer returns to television following her Emmy and BAFTA-winning role as assassin Villanelle in BBC America’s Killing Eve. She recently appeared in Danny Boyle’s zombie film 28 Years Later. Lindelof’s recent credits include HBO’s Watchmen and The Leftovers, as well as the Peacock series Mrs. Davis.
