AceShowbiz - The official title for the highly anticipated collaboration between acclaimed director Martin Scorsese and actor Oscar Isaac has been announced. The duo is teaming up for an eight-episode crime thriller series centered on the gambling world of Las Vegas. Earlier reports revealed that both Scorsese and Isaac would serve as executive producers on this Netflix project.

The series is now confirmed to be called The Roman. In this drama, Isaac stars as Robert "Bobby Red" Redman, the president of the most profitable casino in Las Vegas. His character faces constant high-stakes decisions to maintain his dominance in the city's competitive gambling scene.

The cast also features notable series regulars including Betty Gilpin, Alec Baldwin, and David Costabile. The creators and showrunners behind the project are Brian Koppelman and David Levien, known for co-creating the seven-season hit series Billions alongside Aaron Ross Sorkin.

In The Roman, Gilpin portrays Marla Blake, Bobby Red’s wife and a skilled lawyer who holds intimate knowledge of Las Vegas' hidden dealings. Baldwin takes on the role of Paul "Primo" Clark, a business technician and a father figure to Bobby, adding depth to the intricate relationships within the story. Meanwhile, Costabile plays Bill Saverick, the operator of a rival casino who struggles to balance his longstanding friendship with Bobby and his business interests.

Isaac is currently deepening his partnership with Netflix, having recently starred in and executive produced the second season of the Netflix series Beef, which premiered on April 16. In 2025, he also led the Netflix adaptation of Frankenstein, directed and written by Guillermo del Toro, with Jacob Elordi co-starring as the Creature. Further cementing his relationship with the streamer, Isaac previously starred in the Netflix action film Triple Frontier in 2019.

The Roman adds to the impressive filmography of Martin Scorsese, whose career is synonymous with crime thrillers. His recent Netflix effort The Irishman joins a legacy that includes classics like Goodfellas, Casino, and Taxi Driver. Notably, both Scorsese and Isaac will appear in the film In the Hands of Dante, which premiered at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival and is set to release on Netflix later this year. Baldwin also shares a history with Scorsese, having appeared in the 2006 film The Departed, which earned Scorsese his only Academy Award for Best Director.

Gilpin maintains a strong connection to Netflix through her roles in the 2025 miniseries Death by Lightning as Lucretia Garfield, the popular series GLOW as Debbie "Liberty Belle" Eagan, and American Primeval as Sara Holloway. She is also set to star in Netflix’s upcoming romantic comedy Office Romance, which explores a workplace relationship between characters played by Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein. Additionally, on October 9, Gilpin will appear in the theatrical release The Social Reckoning, a film expanding on The Social Network and delving into the 2021 Facebook scandal involving Mark Zuckerberg.

Costabile reunites with Billions creators Koppelman and Levien in The Roman. He was a series regular throughout all seven seasons of the Showtime drama, which holds an 87% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. Fans also recognize Costabile for his role as chemist Gale Boetticher in Breaking Bad and for reprising the character in the spinoff series Better Call Saul.
