AceShowbiz - Netflix has officially announced the title of its upcoming Las Vegas-set drama starring Oscar Isaac. The series, named The Roman, is created by the team behind the hit show Billions, Brian Koppelman and David Levien, with executive production from Martin Scorsese.
The storyline focuses on Isaac’s character, Robert "Bobby Red" Redman, who serves as the president of a vibrant hotel-casino in Las Vegas. The series will delve into Bobby’s strategic maneuvers to maintain and expand his influence within the city's competitive casino landscape.
Joining Isaac are notable talents including three-time Emmy nominee Betty Gilpin, Alec Baldwin, and David Costabile. Gilpin will portray Marla Blake, Bobby’s wife and a skilled lawyer deeply familiar with the more shadowy aspects of Las Vegas, paralleling her husband’s insight into the city.
Baldwin takes on the role of Paul "Primo" Clark, a legendary figure in the Vegas business world who acts as a surrogate father to Bobby. His character is depicted as someone who enjoys watching his protégés compete for his approval and favor.
Costabile, known for his regular role on Billions, plays Bill Saverick, another casino operator in Las Vegas. Saverick is both a personal friend and a professional competitor to Bobby, adding layers of complexity to the narrative.
The series will have Koppelman and Levien as showrunners and writers. Alongside them, executive producers include Scorsese through his Sikelia Productions, Julie Yorn and Rick Yorn for Expanded Media, J.C. Chandor who will direct the first two episodes, and Paul Schiff, Beth Schacter, and Isaac, who recently signed a first-look deal with Netflix through his Mad Gene company. Kerry Orent serves as co-executive producer.
Regarding representation, Gilpin is represented by CAA, Anonymous Content, and Hansen Jacobson; Baldwin by UTA and manager Matt DelPiano; and Costabile by Verve and Gartner Group Entertainment.
This new drama promises to explore the high-stakes environment of Las Vegas casinos through the eyes of compelling characters shaped by ambition, loyalty, and rivalry. With industry veterans involved both in front of and behind the camera, The Roman is poised to be a major addition to Netflix’s original programming lineup.
